I am from quilted blankets
From Barbie dolls and Teletubbies
I am from a big red bike
From the bubbles and the toy robots
I am from the African Street
Where people ate ghari and pounded yam
(Which are African foods)
I am from the yellow colored house
With chipped paint on doors
I am from Nigeria
Where the sun shines bright
And everyone lives as one
I am from the khimars
From the prayer mats and the Korans
I am from my first birthday in school
Where I ate pizza and cake
And was the center of attention
I am from beautiful fabrics
From necklaces and intricate bracelets
I am from the many stories told
(of my travels to Nigeria when I was 4)
From the many cousins that I have
And the white as snow sheep
(that I owned)
I am from these memories
From these moments
I am from this childhood
